The CoE, which was inaugurated by Sri Gaurav Gupta, IAS Principal Secretary, Department of IT, BT and S&T, Govt of Karnataka, along with Mr. VC Gopalratnam, SVP-IT and CIO – International, Cisco, would be located at the RVCE campus.
With this launch, the Centre aims at providing a specialized curriculum preparing up to 10,000 students from 50 colleges across Karnataka in careers in digital economy, over the next five years. This would further help India in increasing its pool of highly skilled technology professionals. The Centre also plans to support the training and reskilling of mid-career professionals in the private and government sector.
The RVCE faculty will work towards inspiring and educating thousands of students and working professionals to sharpen their skills and prepare them for technology based careers.
What would the CoE curriculum comprise of?
The specialized curriculum which is designed by the pros of the industry would comprise of live and video based learning and involving the application of technologies to real issues in collaboration with local industry and government bodies.
The experts from RVCE will complement this curriculum along with delivering training on digitization and IoT. They would also work towards encouraging innovation in industries including transportation, energy, agriculture and manufacturing.
The Centre will offer several tailor fit courses on technology for students and working professionals, ranging from one to four weeks to six months to a year. The short term courses would be available on weekends and evenings during the week.
RVCE and CISCO would jointly reward credential certificates to students and working professionals on completion of the course.

Bangalore also hosts India’s first Centre of Excellence for Internet of Things (CoE-IoT), which was announced last year as a part of Digital India programme and has been built by government of India and NASSCOM, Department of Electronics & Information Technology (DeitY) and Education and Research Network (ERNET).
